All cycling is at your own risk
Choose bike paths based on your own skill level. Help others who have had accidents or injuries.
Show consideration for others
Slow down when you meet or drive past walkers or other cyclists. Make them aware that you want to pass. Anyone coming from behind always has the right of way. Be especially careful where routes cross each other.
Adjust your speed
Make sure you can stop for unforeseen obstacles on the trail. Remember that the surface changes depending on the weather.
Do not make unnecessary stops where visibility is limited
On hilltops, in bends and on steeper slopes, stopping is particularly unfavorable.
Show respect for nature
Show respect for wildlife and do not leave litter. The mountainous terrain is vulnerable, so we encourage everyone to travel with caution.
It is the cyclist's responsibility to know the rules
Follow current signs and instructions for cycling. Violations of the rules may result in expulsion from the facility.
A helmet is mandatory when cycling
Recommended protective equipment in addition to a helmet is protection for the back, knees and elbows as well as gloves for the hands.
Drunk people will be expelled
Alcohol and drugs impair judgment and performance, which increases the risk for everyone who travels in the mountains.
The cyclist is responsible for his surroundings
It is the cyclist's responsibility to avoid damage to other people, lifts or other facilities.
The Stivett rules
Having great trails to cycle on is not a right, but a privilege. Follow NOTS (Norwegian Mountain Biking Organization) guidelines for trail safety.
- Be considerate and pleasant when meeting hikers.
- You always have the right of way for pedestrians.
- Limit your speed so that you are not a danger or inconvenience to others, especially along roads and trails that invite high speeds, or in difficult-to-see areas.
- Brake down to walking speed well in advance before passing others on a narrow trail.
- Do not make new tracks. If you do not have the skills to overcome an obstacle, get off your bike.
- Avoid cycling on particularly vulnerable trails just after periods of heavy rainfall.
- Do not widen the trail by cycling around ponds or obstacles.
- Carry your bike through marshy areas so that deep ruts do not form.
- Do not lock the rear wheel on steep downhill slopes.
- If two cyclists meet on a hill, the one cycling uphill has the right of way.
